Use xmetric in ChatGPT and Claude
Use https://getxmetric.com/mcp as a custom xmetric connection with no authentication, where your chat host supports custom connections. The public server has passed its production protocol check. The board processes supported .pbix, .twbx and CSV files in the browser and shares metadata and requested answers. Real ChatGPT and Claude panel behavior and directory listings remain unverified.

Can I connect the AI file app yet?
The public server at https://getxmetric.com/mcp passed anonymous MCP initialize, tool discovery and compiled widget-resource checks on 2026-10-28, release 5ccce8d9. The dated verification receipt records the scope and metadata hash. This verifies the server; it does not prove that an interactive panel renders or the right tool is selected in real ChatGPT or Claude. xmetric is not listed in their app directories.
If your host offers custom app or connector connections, use the setup below. You can also use the xmetric browser app or the independent CSV chart on this page without a chat connection.
How do I connect xmetric and open a file?
Add the public URL as a custom connection, then choose a local file inside the xmetric board. This flow needs no xmetric account or API key.
- Create a custom app or connector connection in a host that offers that feature. Name it xmetric and use
https://getxmetric.com/mcp. Choose no authentication if the host asks. This local-file flow needs no xmetric sign-in or API key. - Start a fresh chat and ask to open a local report. Choose the file inside the xmetric board when it appears. A chat attachment is a separate upload to the host; the board does not read that attachment automatically.
- Ask which fields or authored measures are available, then ask a question about the selected file. Read a completed result and its SQL or DAX evidence; a pending request is not an answer. If no interactive board appears, report the host and behavior to support.
Choosing a file shares supported schema and calculation definitions, followed by requested results, with xmetric and the chat host; see Privacy. Real-host rendering and tool-selection checks are still pending. Directory review is separate from a custom connection.
What runs in the browser, and what does the AI app send?
The board reads and parses the file in your browser and executes supported SQL or DAX queries there. xmetric’s remote MCP service passes tool requests and results between the board and the assistant; it does not receive the original file or bulk-upload the underlying table. Choosing a file shares supported field names/types, table or data-source names and calculation definitions, plus local worksheet references where available. Source names can include the selected file name. Answering a question shares the requested result cells, filter values and SQL or DAX evidence.
For example, the downloadable synthetic CSV has four records: East/A/100, East/B/50, West/A/200 and West/B/25. Its fields are Region, Customer and Revenue. Asking “sum Revenue by Region” shares group labels East and West with totals 150 and 225, alongside the query evidence. It does not need to send the Customer values A and B. Asking to group by Customer would send those labels too. The sample manifest records the values and file hashes; it is a checkable example, not a claim that real data is anonymous.
Online upload happens only through separate actions: Save online stores the workbook and data files, and Send it to us uploads a support file. Open in xmetric transfers the file between verified browser windows without an online save. Attaching the file directly to a chat message is a separate upload to that chat host. See the privacy policy for session storage and host retention.
How do I ask about a report-owned measure?
Ask for a grouping, filter or measure from the actual file. For Power BI, an authored measure is labeled with its DAX definition. A sum, average or count of a physical column is labeled as a column aggregate. Tableau calculation definitions can be inspected when the file exposes them. The assistant should quote only completed results and explain their evidence and scope; a pending request is not a number.
How can an authored DAX measure change the answer?
In the synthetic Power BI review file, Net Revenue excludes a refunded amount: it returns 350, while an explicit sum of all Amount values returns 390. The sample facts, definitions and expected values supply the source; this is an arithmetic example, not a Power BI Desktop fidelity score.
The authored definition is CALCULATE(SUM('Sales'[Amount]), 'Sales'[Refunded] = FALSE()). Ask for the report-owned measure when its definition is the business question; label a plain sum as a column aggregate.
Which file-app limits apply?
The file board accepts supported PBIX, TWB/TWBX, CSV, Excel and Parquet files up to 32 MiB. It exposes bounded metadata and at most 200 aggregate rows per question, with up to two grouping fields. Large models may expose only a selected projection. Remote or mixed Power BI models need their external data and cannot be queried through this local-file flow. Some file features or calculations are unsupported and should be reported explicitly.
PBIX answers apply report-level filters. They do not reproduce a particular page or visual’s filters unless explicitly represented in the question. The local file is opened as its owner; this does not establish a restricted company user’s authenticated permissions.
Source: the file-app runtime limit contract, updated with this page. These limits describe the local-file board, not signed-in online storage.
How do I continue in the browser app?
“Open in xmetric” transfers the local file directly to a verified xmetric browser window when the host allows popups and the transfer channel. It does not upload or save the file online. A Power BI transfer opens the original report; a generated question board is not preserved in that transfer. Online saving and sharing use the normal signed-in xmetric controls.
If the host does not display an interactive panel, report that to support; do not treat a text-only response as proof that the board ran. For a simple formula or a chart from a few numbers already in chat, use your assistant directly.
How can I check these privacy claims myself?
Use the public synthetic sample first, then inspect the board’s network and tool messages before choosing a confidential file. The examples and expected totals on this page can be checked without trusting a screenshot or an AI answer.
- Download revenue.csv and open it as text. Confirm the four records and add the values: East is 150, West is 225 and the total is 375.
- Open your browser’s developer tools before choosing the file inside the xmetric board. Inspect the board frame’s Network activity and the host’s tool details where available. Selecting a file should share schema/worksheet metadata through
xmetric.register_schemaand, where available,xmetric.register_runner; it should not send a file-upload body containing the original CSV. Host bridges can relay tool calls through their own transport, so not every tool name appears as a separate browser URL. - Ask for Revenue by Region. Inspect the completed
xmetric.resultand its SQL evidence: expect East 150 and West 225. The file board may show a local chart before a chat query; a chart alone is not proof of what was sent. - Check the separate upload controls before using them. Save online requires the normal signed-in flow; a support upload requires pressing Send. Report any different behavior, with the app release and synthetic sample, to support.
This is a reproducible inspection procedure, not an independent privacy audit. Host interfaces, browser inspection access and supported features vary. The real ChatGPT and Claude connector checks remain distinct from an xmetric SDK test.
Which workflow fits my question?
Use the local-file board for questions grounded in a report; use ordinary chat for standalone calculations. Online storage and account-backed services keep their normal controls.
| Question or action | Appropriate workflow |
|---|---|
| Open a .pbix, .twbx or CSV | Choose the local file in the xmetric board. |
| Explain a general Excel formula | Ask the chat assistant directly. |
| Save or share a workbook online | Use the signed-in xmetric app and its permissions. |
Can I try a CSV before connecting?
Yes. This optional CSV chart runs on this page without connecting a chat app; the file is not uploaded. Download the synthetic sample to inspect its values.
No file loaded yet. You can also drop a CSV on this box.
What else do people ask?
Can I open a .pbix on a Mac?
The xmetric board can open supported embedded Power BI models locally in the browser. It does not connect to Power BI Service or make every model feature available.
Can xmetric explain a FIXED LOD calculation?
When the Tableau workbook exposes the definition, xmetric can share its actual calculation metadata for explanation. An explanation does not prove numeric evaluation of every LOD expression.
Will xmetric write an Excel formula for me?
Use your assistant directly for a general formula; a local report app is unnecessary when the answer does not depend on a file.
Is a local file the same as private chat data?
No. The original file stays in the board, but supported metadata and requested results are shared with xmetric and the chat host. Group labels, filters and small aggregates can disclose sensitive values. Review the data flow before choosing a confidential file.
