Which chart maker should I choose?

Choose a chart for the question your data should answer: category comparisons, change across periods, numeric relationships or distributions.

  • Bar chart maker — Compare totals across categories.
  • Line graph maker — Follow values across an ordered series.
  • Scatter plot maker — Compare two numeric columns as individual observations.
  • Bubble chart maker — Compare numeric coordinates and encode a third numeric column as bubble size.
  • Dot plot maker — Compare category totals with dots on a numeric axis.
  • Stacked bar chart maker — Compare category totals split into a series.
  • Stacked area chart maker — Show how a total and its component series change across an ordered axis.
  • Pie chart maker — Compare categories as portions of an aggregated total. Use nonnegative values.
  • Histogram maker — Count numeric observations in equal-width bins you can edit.
  • Frequency table maker — Count how often each category appears in your data.
  • Box plot maker — Show medians, quartiles and 1.5 × IQR whiskers across individual numeric observations in each category.
  • Scatter plot with line of best fit — Plot two numeric columns and fit a linear trend using the xmetric analytics engine.
  • Bullet chart maker — Compare actuals with numeric targets using bars, target lines and 60%, 85% and 100% threshold bands.
  • Heat map generator — Compare two category dimensions with numeric color, labels and square size.
  • Slope chart maker — Connect each category across exactly two periods. Bring a file containing only the two periods you want to compare.
  • Gantt chart maker — Draw task timelines from start and end dates, with durations calculated in days by the xmetric engine.
  • Dual axis chart maker — Compare two numeric measures using a bar and a line with independent vertical axes.
  • How do chart types compare?

Bars compare categories, lines show ordered change, scatter plots show numeric relationships, and distribution charts summarize observations.

What limits apply to my data?

These limits apply to tabular imports, not native Power BI or Tableau report compatibility. File size and browser memory limit what xmetric can open. Group large datasets before drawing a chart.

    LimitCurrent behavior
File size32 MiB on constrained devices; 160 MiB otherwise

Can I chart a CSV online without uploading my data?

Yes. Choose a maker and open your local file or paste CSV. The chart engine reads the data in your browser.

Can I export and edit the result?

Yes. Download SVG or continue in the xmetric app with your data and selected chart.
