Workbook inspector

See every calculation in a Tableau or Power BI file, what it depends on, and where it ends up.

Runs in your browser. Files are never uploaded.

What it reads

From a Tableau workbook: data sources and connections, fields, calculated fields and their formulas, parameters, the fields on each sheet's shelves, and dashboards. Formulas are parsed, so a calculation that refers to a missing field is flagged and a calculation built on another calculation is drawn as one.

From Power BI: tables, columns, DAX measures and calculated columns, relationships, report pages and the fields each visual uses. DAX dependencies are found by name, not by running the measure.

What it doesn't do

It doesn't run calculations or read extract rows; a .hyper extract is listed with its size. Nothing is sent anywhere: the reader is a script in this page, and it keeps working if you go offline after the page loads.

Run a calculation in the playground, Microsoft's sample .pbix files, Third-party notices.
