How do I use xmetric with an AI host?
Start with the connection guide for your host, or compare the available MCP servers.
- Best MCP Servers for Data Analysis, SQL Queries, and BI Workbooks
Compare MCP servers for PostgreSQL, DuckDB, SQLite, BigQuery and Tableau Cloud, plus xmetric’s live public local-file MCP server. Pick the right tool for SQL or .twbx files. - Can I connect ChatGPT to xmetric for local dashboards?
The public xmetric MCP endpoint is live. Connect where custom connections are supported; real ChatGPT/Claude host behavior and directory listings remain unverified. - Connect Claude Desktop to xmetric via MCP: server status and limits
xmetric’s public no-auth MCP server is live for local-file boards. Check its tools, shared data and the unverified Claude host and directory status. - Let Claude Code or Cursor Read and Query a .twbx Workbook
Unpack a .twbx archive so Claude Code or Cursor can read the .twb XML, or drop the workbook into xmetric in your browser to inspect fields and LODs.
How do I review a workbook before changing it?
Choose a connection audit, dependency review, saved-definition comparison or text-workbook workflow.
- Audit the connections, tables and Custom SQL inside a .twbx
List every connection, server, table, join, Custom SQL query and extract inside a .twbx or .twb, in your browser or with a script, without Tableau Desktop. - Dashboards as Code: Declarative Text Workbooks for Git and Coding Agents
Review .twb XML changes in Git and inspect authored calculations locally. Learn where xmetric’s command model fits coding-agent workflows and what remains in development. - Diff Two .twbx Workbooks and Review Formula Changes With an AI Agent
Compare two versions of a .twb or .twbx workbook without noisy XML layout diffs: review changed calculated fields, filters, and shelves. - Find Orphan and Unused Calculated Fields in a Tableau Workbook
Trace dependencies across worksheets, filters, and nested formulas to find unused calculated fields in a .twb or .twbx file, in your browser.
How do I explain or translate workbook calculations?
Choose the guide that matches the calculation or migration question.
- Break Down Nested FIXED, INCLUDE, and EXCLUDE LOD Formulas Step by Step
Read nested FIXED, INCLUDE and EXCLUDE formulas inside out: grain, filter order and exact SQL, plus a prompt template for AI agents. - Migrate Tableau Calculated Fields and LOD Expressions into dbt Models
Extract row-level formulas, aggregates, and FIXED LOD expressions from a .twbx workbook and refactor them into staging and mart dbt SQL models. - Tableau FIXED, INCLUDE, and EXCLUDE LOD vs Power BI DAX CALCULATE
Side-by-side guide mapping Tableau FIXED, INCLUDE, and EXCLUDE LOD expressions to Power BI DAX CALCULATE, ALLEXCEPT, REMOVEFILTERS, and ALL. - Translate Tableau Context, Dimension, Measure, and Table Calc Filters to SQL
See which SQL clause matches each step in Tableau's filter pipeline, from context filters before FIXED LODs to HAVING and post-window filtering. - Translate Tableau RUNNING_SUM, LOOKUP, and WINDOW_AVG to SQL OVER()
Map Tableau addressing and partitioning pills directly to SQL PARTITION BY, ORDER BY, and ROWS BETWEEN frames for RUNNING_SUM, LOOKUP, RANK, and INDEX. - Translate Tableau Workbooks, LODs, and Extracts to DuckDB SQL
Convert Tableau calculated fields, FIXED LOD expressions, date functions, and table calculations into standard DuckDB SQL for local analytics.
How do I chart a local export with an agent?
Start with the local CSV workflow for a checkable chart and its data-sharing boundaries.
- Build Charts From a Local CSV With an AI Agent and Zero Cloud Upload
Chart sensitive CSV, Excel and Parquet files in your browser with xmetric. Ask an AI for formulas using only column names; raw rows stay on your device.
How does this workflow work?
What is the direct answer to this workbook question?
The public xmetric MCP server is live at https://getxmetric.com/mcp with no authentication or API key. It exposes local-file board, schema, aggregate-query and worksheet tools; real ChatGPT and Claude host rendering and tool selection remain unverified. Their directory listings and xmetric’s live Postgres and BigQuery connections remain coming.
What does the live xmetric MCP server do?
It accepts anonymous remote MCP connections at https://getxmetric.com/mcp and serves its tool catalog and browser-board widget. The original file is read in the board; supported metadata and requested results are shared with xmetric and the chat host.
Supported local-file boards read .pbix, .twbx/.twb, CSV, Excel and Parquet. A host must render the board to choose a file; a text-only client does not automatically read files on your disk. Setup, data flow and limits · Privacy · 2026-10-29 public protocol receipt.
| Capability | Status |
|---|---|
| Public no-auth MCP server, tool discovery and widget assets | Live; protocol checked |
| Real ChatGPT and Claude rendering and tool selection | Unverified |
| ChatGPT and Claude directory listings | Coming |
| Live Postgres and BigQuery connections in xmetric | Coming |
Is the xmetric MCP server live?
Yes. Anonymous initialize, tool discovery and widget-resource checks passed at https://getxmetric.com/mcp on 2026-10-29. This is protocol proof, not proof of a working ChatGPT or Claude host connection.
Is xmetric listed in the ChatGPT or Claude directories?
Directory listings remain coming. Real host rendering and tool selection remain unverified.
Does opening a file through the MCP board upload it?
The original file stays in the browser board. Supported schema, source names and calculation definitions are shared when choosing it; requested result cells, filters and SQL or DAX evidence are shared when answering. These values can be sensitive. Online saves and support uploads are separate actions.
What data does this worked example use?
The initial view uses authored synthetic data, not customer data or a captured agent session.
The example record lists its file, calculation or SQL and expected values. The live browser result is computed by xmetric’s existing engine or workbook inspector. Samples are excluded from own-data activation reporting.
