How do I use Power BI Service instead of installing Desktop?

Use an appropriate Power BI account and workspace to upload or publish the .pbix report and model, then view the report in the service. This moves report data into Microsoft's hosted environment; it is not local-only file viewing.

Account permissions, tenant policies and licensing affect what you can upload, edit and share. Microsoft documents that publishing creates the report and semantic model in the workspace, and service edits do not automatically change your original .pbix file. See Microsoft's publishing documentation.

When should I use Windows or Parallels for a .pbix?

Use a compatible Windows environment when you need Power BI Desktop's native report authoring or behavior that the browser viewer does not support. A VM still installs and runs Power BI Desktop; it does not replace Desktop.

Before choosing a VM on a Mac, check the current Power BI Desktop system requirements and Parallels requirements. Processor architecture, Windows version and VM configuration matter; this page does not guarantee every combination.

What does xmetric reproduce from my .pbix?

xmetric opens supported report pages, data and visuals and provides supported interactions in its browser app. It is more than a ZIP or metadata inspector, but it does not guarantee every Power BI layout, DAX calculation, custom visual or interaction.

Check key values and filters against Power BI before relying on or sharing a report. A missing live connection or unsupported report feature can prevent a complete result. To compare the Mac workflows, see Power BI on a Mac; for a direct file entry point use the .pbix viewer.
